RANGELY I A new scoreboard was installed and dedicated last week at the 2012 homecoming game against the Nucla Mustangs. The Panthers lit up the new scoreboard, scoring 61 points, while only allowing the Mustangs 6.
The scoreboard and field are dedicated to Bernard Yeager. The field was first dedicated in his honor in 1986.
After serving in the armed forces during World War II under General George Patton, Yeager came to Rangely and started out as a teacher, then principal and served as the school district’s superintendent from 1947 until 1965.
Yeager helped bring Rangely up from a meager one-room school building to one of the finest facilities in the state. Yeager was highly respected by the students, staff and community.
Yeager also helped establish Colorado Northwestern Community College and the Yeager Multi-purpose building was dedicated in his name in 1977.
After his retirement, Yeager purchased the local theatre and the local newspaper (The Rangely Times).
Yeager is remembered for his inspiration and dedication to the community of Rangely.
