Panthers shut down Plateau Valley 60-0

RANGELY I The Rangely Panthers bounced back after a season-opening loss and shut out the Plateau Valley Cowboys 60-0 on Yeager Field in front of a hometown crowd.
“The guys played extremely well,” head coach Paul Fortunato said. “It was a good week after week one.”
The Panthers scored four touchdowns in the first quarter and three in the second to dominate the visiting Cowboys.
“Our varsity was done after two minutes into the second quarter and the younger guys came in and finished the game out strong,” Fortunato said.
Kelton Elam was credited with three touchdowns, rushing for two and completing a pass to Colt Allred for a third. Elam completed three passes for 53 yards and rushed for 28.
Troy Allred completed two of two passes, including one to Anthony Martin for a touchdown and senior Cameron Enterline caught three passes for 27 yards. Enterline also had an interception he returned for a 60-yard touchdown. Kaulan Brady also had an interception on defense and returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown.
Ethan Allred scored a rushing touchdown, gained 42 yards on seven carries and was in on five tackles, as were Jesse Odem and Heath Peters. Martin led the team with seven tackles. Odem also rushed for 45 yards on five carries and Jesse Powell carried the ball six times for 32 yards and a touchdown.
The Panthers will take their show on the road Friday, as they travel to Nucla to play the Mustangs. A 7 p.m. kickoff is scheduled.
