RANGELY I The lady Panthers won their first two league volleyball matches last week and will host the Soroco Rams from Oak Creek this Friday for Rangely’s 2012 homecoming.
The Panthers defeated Plateau Valley last Friday in Collbran in three straight games.
“We played really well in this match,” head coach Jimmie Mergelman said.
Rangely senior Quincey Thacker let the team with 14 kills. Brittany Babineaux followed with 10 kills and Chelsea Ficken led the team with four blocks against Plateau Valley.
Rangely had to play four games to win the match against Hotchkiss, who dropped down in classification and new to the league this year, last Saturday in their home gym.
“We didn’t know much about Hotchkiss but they are a good scrappy team and a nice addition to our league,” Mergelman said.
Thacker led the team again with 19 kills against the lady Bulldogs and Babineaux added 12 and eight blocks.
“I think that we did not play up to our potential during this match but as always, there is always room for improvement,” Mergel-man said.
The lady Panthers are currently 4-2 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Rangely will host South Routt County (Soroco) this Friday, with games starting 3 p.m., the varsity is scheduled to play at 5 p.m. Saturday, Vail Christian will come to town for another league match, with games starting at 1 p.m., varsity at 3 p.m.
