At the annual Meeker Parade of Lights event, the official town Christmas trees were lighted (above) amid a large crowd that enjoyed the parade, the Meeker Elementary School Choir singing Christmas carols and fireworks. (Below) Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus got out of their wheeled sleigh and handed out candy along Main Street in front of the county courthouse.
There were 13 entries in the “Festival of Lights”-themed parade.
All of the entries were creative and bright in some way, and hundreds of Meeker residents and visitors lined Main Street for the length of the parade.

The “It’s a Wonderful Life” Best of Show Award was presented to Pioneers Medical Center.
The “Clark Griswold” Brightest Float Award went to White River Electric Association.
The Santa’s Elves Choice Award went to the Meeker Volunteer Fire and Rescue. Santa, a huge lighted elk and Madison Kindler shared the float put together for Rocky Mountain Hair Benders, a nail and hair salon in Meeker. While the weather was cool for the Meeker Parade of Lights and other events, it was notably about 40 degrees warmer on the night of the events, held Dec. 3, than it was for last year’s parade.
The Barone Middle School track team competed and placed well in the meet in West Grand last weekend. The eighth grade boys won the overall meet. Read the recap online at ht1885.com.
