RBC I Nine wrestlers from Rio Blanco County qualified and wrestled in the Colorado Middle School State Wrestling Championships last weekend in Denver and one returned with a medal. Barone Middle School eighth-grader Tevin Pelloni, who finished fifth, was the county’s lone placer.
Pelloni had 42 wrestlers in his bracket and wrestled seven matches to place fifth in the 125-pound bracket, finishing the season with a 23-4 record. Barone Middle School sixth-grader Kelton Turner also qualified for the state tournament and won a match in the Denver Coliseum.
Rangely Middle School qualified seven wrestlers for the two-day state tournament and although none placed, eighth-graders Tytus Coombs, Justin Rusher and Hunter Hanvey all won matches.
