Pfau qualified for the state wrestling tournament as a freshman for the Meeker Cowboys and was the second girl to ever win a match in the Colorado State wrestling tournament. Pfau dominated her weight class in the toughest national free style tournament in the country, referred to as simply “Fargo” in the wrestling world, by not allowing any opponent to score a point on her. Pfau pinned wrestlers from Washington, California and Michigan and beat Jasmine Bailey of Iowa by decision (5-0, 2-0) in the semifinals, before defeating Julia Long of Wyoming 7-0, 6-0 in the championship match.
