MEEKER | Meeker’s annual Festival of Lights Tree Lighting and Parade of Lights will be held on Nov. 30. Each year Pioneers Healthcare Foundation Tree Lighting honors those who cannot be with loved ones for the holidays. This year, along with the tree lighting, parade of lights and silent auction of wreaths, the Foundation has teamed up with local businesses to support bringing 3D mammography to Pioneers Medical Center with a variety of activities to kick off the holiday season.
In lieu of a Spring Gala in 2017, the festivities will start with the annual Lighting of the Trees on the Courthouse lawn on Wednesday, Nov. 30, followed by “An Old Fashioned Christmas” Parade of Lights sponsored by the Meeker Chamber of Commerce. If you want to participate in the Old Fashioned Christmas Tree lighting you can purchase light bulbs which will light up the trees on the courthouse lawn. Lightbulbs are $5 each and for each light bulb you purchase, you can name a family member or friend and/or honor those serving in the military who cannot be home for the holidays. Your loved one’s name will be placed on a banner displayed on the courthouse lawn throughout the holiday season. Contact Margie Joy at 970-878-9317 for more information.
Celebrate the season by dining at local restaurants during the Pink Plates: Dine and Donate event Nov. 30 through Dec. 3. Your Meeker restaurants support Breast Cancer Awareness by donating a percentage per plate sold in their restaurant on a designated night. Be sure to visit Holliday’s, Ma Famiglia, Mexican House and Meeker Café during the week for your favorite meal.
Finally, cap the week off by attending the Pioneers Healthcare Foundation Jingle Mingle wine and cheese tasting Dec. 3. The event, sponsored by Pioneers Healthcare Foundation and local businesses and held at Chippers, begins at 7 p.m. Enjoy delicious wines from Blanco Cellars, chosen for the season and paired with cheeses and appetizers. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Pioneers Medical Center or Blanco Cellars. After the Jingle Mingle, be sure to enjoy live music at Chippers, where a percentage of each drink sold throughout the evening will be donated to the purchase of a 3D Mammography unit at PMC.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women. Early detection is the key to a victory over the disease. The screening technology currently in use at Pioneers Medical Center is nearing the end of its useful life and is in need of replacement. The addition of 3D mammography to PMC will significantly improve access to screenings and accuracy in diagnosis. Pioneers Healthcare Foundation is proud to team up with local businesses to bring this technology to our community. All proceeds from the events will be directed to support Breast Cancer screenings and the purchase of a 3D mammography machine.
