MEEKER I Pioneers Medical Center, thanks to the support of local businesses and individuals, awarded $7,300 in scholarships Saturday at its annual Monte Carlo event.
PMC also received a $5,000 grant from ExxonMobil to fund two eight-week summer internships.
The scholarship winners are: Shar Rice $400 (sponsored by PMC and Meeker General Mercantile), Makala Sheridan $500 (sponsored by PMC), Keenan Walters $1,000 (sponsored by Westlands Ranch), R.J. Palmer $1,000 (sponsored by Colorado Northwestern Community College and the White River Community Association), Garrett Griffin $1,400 (sponsored by the Zagar family and PMC), Kaylee Ridings $1,500 (sponsored by PMC), and Cameron Glasscock $1,500 (sponsored by PMC).
The Grow Your Own program is about developing interest and talent in the health-care fields. In addition to scholarships and internships, PMC partners with Meeker High School to offer a certified nursing assistant course and a work-study option to high school students.

About 250 people attended Saturday’s event at the Fairfield Center, where it was announced that Dr. Frank Tong will join the physician staff in July.
