MEEKER I April 10-16 is National Volunteer Week, which is a great time to recognize the wonderful people who bring a smile or lend a helping hand to the patients, residents and staff at Pioneers Medical Center (PMC).
“We have a tremendous group of selfless people who give of their time and talent,” said Donna Palmer, the director of volunteers at PMC. “We love the volunteers who come in on a weekly basis to visit, knit, play games and sing with the Walbridge Wing residents.”
Volunteers are an integral part of the PMC staff and help PMC carry out its mission for a healthy community, said CEO Ken Harmon, offering service in a variety of areas.
Some volunteers deliver a daily meal to community members as part of the Meals on Wheels program. Other volunteers share their talent and friendship with the Walbridge Wing residents. They offer activities of sewing, singing or playing games. And a third group of volunteers greets all visitors to the PMC campus and offers directions to their appointment or other business.
“The PMC volunteer program has more than 30 individuals who give countless hours of service. Their dedication is amazing,” says Danette Coulter, also a PMC director of volunteers.
“2015, was the first year for having a greeter at PMC,” she said. “This service has been invaluable to assist our patients as they become familiar with the PMC facility. We couldn’t have done this without our volunteers.”
“The Meals on Wheels volunteers are an extension of our dietary staff,” said Brenda Nay, PMC‘s dietary manager.
Monday thru Friday, the PMC dietary crew prepares 10 to 12 meals to be delivered throughout the community to members who are sick or unable to cook for themselves.
