Seven members of the Glenwood Art Guild, founded in 1962, traveled to Meeker for a week of plein air painting. For the last 30 years or so, guild members have taking a six-night trip every year to different locations around Colorado and the United States. On Friday they painted at the cemetery, and on Saturday they headed out to the Coal Creek Schoolhouse. Portia Griefenberg of Glenwood Springs works on an oil painting of the schoolhouse from the back of her car. After painting during the day, the group critiques each other’s work and socializes. Since 1962, the Glenwood Art Guild, which was responsible for the very popular Glenwood Art Show for many years, has given $250,000 in scholarships and donations to schools in the Roaring Fork Valley.
