MEEKER I “It doesn’t happen very often, but when it does, it is a joy,” said Dr. Kellie Turner.
On the morning of Feb. 8, Araya Lee Durfee was born at Pioneers Medical Center.
The last baby delivered at PMC was in June 2007.
Araya Durfee was born to Katie Jennings and Marty Durfee. She has an older brother, Cody Jennings. Araya was born at 7:26 a.m. She weighed 5 pounds 11 ounces and was 21 inches long.
We want to say thank you to Dr. Turner, Dr. (Albert) Krueger, Carol Dorsett (nurse) and the PMC team. They coached us through and everything went smooth,” said the parents.
PMC does not typically deliver babies, except in emergency situations.
“Delivering a baby can be exciting, but there are so many unknowns that can happen, and for the safety of both mother and baby, they need to be cared for in a facility with dedicated resources for deliveries,” Dr. Turner said. “When an expectant mother comes to the PMC emergency room, we work closely with either St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction or the Memorial Hospital in Craig, to get the mother to a larger facility with more obstetrical care.”
