RBC — Federal fire officials from the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit are preparing several prescribed burns this spring in Eagle, Garfield, Pitkin and Rio Blanco counties. The purpose of these prescribed burns is to reduce fuels and improve wildlife habitat.
Prescribed burns will be conducted when weather, moisture and fuel conditions allow. The expected burn window will be mid-April to the end of May.
The 1,200-acre Coulter Mesa burn is planned on White River National Forest and BLM lands 13 miles northeast of Rifle. For more information, contact John Seemann at (970) 878-6018.
