Displaying the Flag:
24/7: When displaying the U.S. flag properly 24 hours a day, it must be properly illuminated during darkness.
On The Same Staff: U.S. flag is always on top, above all other flags.
Grouped: The U.S. flag always goes to its right. Flags of other nations are flown at the same height.
Marching: U.S. flag is to the marchers right and the observer’s left.
On Speaker’s Platform: The flag must be above and behind the speaker and mounted on a staff to the speakers right.
Over A Street or Against A Wall: When suspended vertically, the Union (stars) face north or east depending on the street direction.
Half Staff: On special days, the flag may be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset and should be hoisted to the pole’s peak for an instant, then lowered to the half-staff position. When taking flag down, it should be again raised to the pole’s peak then lowered.
On Memorial Day, the flag flies at half-staff from sunrise until noon and then is raised.
*NEVER SHOULD THERE BE ANY OTHER FLAG(S) ON A POLE WITH THE U.S. FLAG WHILE AT HALF STAFF.
Special Flag Rules:
– Do not let the flag touch the ground
– Do not fly the flag upside down unless there is an emergency
– Do not carry the flag flat, or carry things in it
– Do not use the flag as clothing
– Do not store the flag where it can get dirty
– Do not use it as a cover
– Do not fasten or tie it back, allow it to fall free
– Do not draw on or mark on the flag
