MEEKER I The Bureau of Land Management seeks public comment on Phase 1 of a proposed foot and bicycle connection trail between Ute Park and Philip and Dorcas Jensen Memorial Park near Meeker.
A public scoping meeting to help answer questions and identify any potential issues is scheduled for 6 p.m., May 22 at the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan, ERBM, Recreation Center 101 Ute Dr. in Meeker.
The proposed trail will connect the parks across approximately two miles of BLM property in two phases. A master plan for the new Phillip and Dorcas Jensen Memorial Park was approved in August by the ERBM district board. According to the ERBM, connectivity among parks and open spaces in the district is a goal. Connection between Philip and Dorcas Jensen Memorial and Ute Park is a priority.
The Phase 1 trail will spur off the existing trail at Philip and Dorcas Jensen Memorial Park and terminate at a high point above China Wall on BLM land. Phase 2 is projected to continue on BLM land along the ridgeline above the cliff walls down to Ute Park.
