NOTICE OF UPCOMING ELECTION/CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The Rangely School District RE-4 Board of Education election will be held November 5, 2019. At this election two directors will be elected for a term of office of four years. To be qualified, a candidate must have been a registered voter of the district for at least 12 consecutive months before the election and a resident within the Rangely School District. A person is ineligible to run for school director if he or she has been convicted of committing a sexual offense against a child. In addition it is necessary to submit a notice of intention to be a candidate and a nomination petition signed by at least 25 registered voters residing in the School District. The first day to circulate nomination petitions is August 8, 2019. The forms may be obtained from Shari Plummer in the Superintendent’s Office at the School District Central Office at 402 West Main Street. The form must be completed and returned to the Rangely School District Central Office no later than Friday, August 30, 2019 at 4:00 p.m.

NOTICE OF FILING OF APPLICATION

TO INCREASE THE 9­1­1 EMERGENCY TELEPHONE CHARGE

Notice is hereby given that The Eastern Rio Blanco Emergency Telephone Authority has applied to the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for approval to increase the current monthly 9­1­1 surcharge affecting all users of exchange telephone, wireless, wireline, and voice-­over-­internet-­protocol (VoIP) telephone services within Eastern Rio Blanco County from .70 to $1.80 . The proposed effective date of the increase is January 1, 2020.

As explained in the Application, the requested surcharge increase is proposed as necessary to fund expenses related to the provision of emergency telephone service, as allowed by Colorado law (C.R.S. 29-11-102 and 104).

This Application is available for inspection in each local office of the Applicant or at the CPUC. The address of the Applicant where the Application may be viewed is 355 4th St, Meeker, CO. The Applicant’s telephone number is 970-878-9600.

The Application may also be inspected at the offices of the CPUC, 1560 Broadway, Suite 250, Denver, CO 80202, and electronically at https://www.dora.state.co.us/pls/efi/ EFI_Search_UI.search, Proceeding No. 19A-0407T.

Objections or comments may be filed through mail to the offices of the CPUC, 1560 Broadway, Suite 250, Denver, CO 80202, or online using the Commission’s electronic filing system at https://www.dora.state.co.us/pls/real/CCTS/oWEB.comments_form. All interventions must be filed in accordance with Rule 1401 of the Commission’s Rules of Practice and Procedure 4 Code of Colorado Regulations, 723-1. If the application is uncontested or unopposed, as evidenced through the absence of written intervention or objection filings by the deadline, the Commission may determine the matter without a hearing and without further notice. The deadline for filing an intervention or objection is September 5, 2019.

If a hearing is held, members of the public may attend and make statements under oath even if they do not file written objections or a request for intervention.

Housing Resources of Western Colorado will submit an application to the Colorado Division of Housing (DOH). The purpose of this application is to request $130,000 to assist in the rehabilitation of 4 rental properties located in Rio Blanco County, Colorado. The request of funding from DOH is to benefit persons with low and moderate incomes.  It is not the intent to cause displacement from any existing housing; however, if persons are displaced from their existing residences reasonable housing alternatives shall be offered.

All interested persons are encouraged to contact the applicant for further information.   • It’s getting late, do you know where your kids are? Read all the Rio Happenings for this week in print or online at ht1885.com.
  • Mormon crickets have hatched near Rangely. They were all sighted on BLM land north of Hwy. 64 near the junction of CR 96 and CR 1, down a dirt road near the Moffat County line.  The picture shown was taken yesterday by Mary Meinen from Rangely. She says the crickets are about the size of a ladybug (less than 1/2”). Some of them are actually yellow in color but most of them are darker. They are milling around and getting ready to start moving soon. Note: Photo is not to scale.
Rio Blanco County and the White River and Douglas Creek Conservation Districts are still asking for your help to identify additional hatch-outs of crickets so that control efforts can be put in place. The success of the program will highly depend upon local landowners and the public helping to locate crickets as soon as they hatch.  See last week’s paper for a list of ways to help or contact the County Weed & Pest District at 970-878-9670 or the Conservation District office at 970-878-9838 with any questions. Third place team Mr. Rogers and the Hood (accepted by Doug Rogers) Gary Rogers, Mark Beauchamp, Kyle Schutte and Rick Gunter. The white fish have been frozen and will be served at the annual White River Community Association fish fry fundraiser in June.
