RANGELY I The 21st Rangely Racquetball Tournament was held this past weekend with players coming from as far away as Denver, Hotchkiss, Grand Junction and Vernal, Utah.
Tournament director Shirley Parsons said in addition to the competition, everyone enjoyed the food, door prizes and, most of all, the camaraderie. Ceramic mugs, provided by local artist Beth Wiley of Elizabeth Robinson Studio, were the “trophies” for first and second places, and they were a big hit.
There was some great racquetball played in the upper divisions, Parsons said, as well as friendly competition for those just learning the sport.
Sponsors were Colorado Northwestern Community College, Blue Mountain Inn & Suites and Western Rio Blanco Recreation District. The staff of the recreation center, Jeanne Smith and the local merchants all contributed to make the event a great success.
