Radino review: Seniors have busy July

RANGELY | The month of July continues to be the busiest month of the year for Radino seniors. Lots of activities, barbecues and trips:
July 2 — Bus to Lakeside Café for lunch
July 3 — Bus to Vernal, Utah, for shopping and appointments
July 4 — Bus to lake for July Fourth program and fireworks display
July 8 — Bus to Fritzlan’s for lunch
July 11 — Evening barbecue at White River Village
July 16 — Bus to Grand Junction for shopping and doctor appointments
July 18 — Bus to Vernal for shopping
July 22 — Bus to Elks Park for senior picnic
July 23 — Bus to Vernal for lunch and movie
July 24 — Wedding reception at Radino for Bill and Marilyn Ormsby of Dinosaur
July 30 — Bus to Massadona for lunch
July 31 — Barbecue at Radino
On June 21, the summer “Reading Practice” program for first through fifth graders began. This program is sponsored by the Rangely library and the Radino Center and is open to all elementary students at no cost.
Colleen Brixius and Maggie Long are volunteer instructors Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
The Rangely Library purchased 30 books for these classes and the Radino Center provides space at no cost for the classes.
As many as 12 students have been enrolled; classes will run through Aug. 14.
Eleven seniors made the trip to Fritzlan’s for the scenic drive and a great lunch. A large herd of elk, including newborns were spotted both going and coming. Some great photos were taken by those with cameras.
The first-of-the-season gathering of White River Village (WRV) residents was held at an outdoor barbecue in early July.
Ed Ballegeer presided at the grill (donated to WRV by Ann Brady) and cooked lots of chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs.
A potluck included lots of good food. Those attending were Chris and Joe Brasfield representing town of Rangely staff, Ed Ballegeer, Mary Truitt, Pat Hejl, Gaylynn Voyles, Ruth Meadows, Carol Steele, Joanie Dyer, Maggie Long and Rhinny Ficken. Mr. Ficken celebrated his 98th birthday July 12.
Bingo at the Radino is played at 10 a.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month and at 3 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays of the month.
Card games and Rummicube are played from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Everyone is welcome.
A wedding reception for Bill and Marilyn Ormsby was held July 17. Bill and Marilyn were married in Las Vegas in late July.
Dorothy Collins and Carol Casto hosted the party with wedding decorations, balloons, party favors, a money tree, cake and ice cream. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Ormsby.
July 22 was the annual senior picnic at Elks Park, hosted by the Rio Blanco Sheriff’s Department, Rangely Police Department and the town of Rangely Administration office.
A pig was barbecued and was served along with potluck dishes and drinks.
An evening barbecue will be held outdoors at the Radino at 6 p.m. on July 31. The hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided; attendees are asked to bring a side dish. Games will include shuffleboard and horseshoes. Everyone is invited to attend. A barbecue held earlier this year was a great success.
