RANGELY — Last Saturday afternoon, the Rangely Panthers did what they were not able to do last year and that was to get through the first round in district tournament with a victory.
Even though it wasn’t pretty, it was a victory over West Grand 67-49.
The Panthers, not very disciplined on offense, still scored 67 points. If the Panthers can play a disciplined game on offense they are capable of putting up a lot of points.
Rangely did a good job on the defensive side by forcing 16 turnovers, and West Grand was not able to get anything going. One of the positive things for the Panthers was that they had four players in double digits led by Patrick Phelan with 18 points. Tim Willis did a great job in running the floor and finished with 15 points.
Also scoring in double digits was Michael Morton with 12 points and he grabbed five rebounds. Keenan Harvey scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds. Other players who scored for the Panthers were Lewis Murray with five, Kanden Brady finished with four and Adam Dahl had two points.
With this victory Rangely will travel to Paonia Friday night for the rematch. Earlier this year Rangely beat Paonia by two points. The game starts at 8 p.m., and the team would encourage everyone to make the trip and support the Panthers.
