RANGELY I The Rangely Area Chamber of Commerce (RACC) is alive, well and active.
The 2011 Chamber Booklet and Business Directory has been distributed to businesses, other chambers in northwestern Colorado and in welcome centers in Colorado and Utah. These directories are made available to everyone and for business owners who ask “what does the chamber do for me?” (See page 4 of the booklet for answers to that question.)
Over the past two years, RACC has placed advertising in spring and fall Herald Times Hunting Guides as well as the Summer Vacation Guide. Ads have also been placed in the Craig/Steamboat “Hunter” magazine, the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel’s “Vacationland” supplement and “The Colorado Vacation Directory.”
The RACC board of directors has been quite busy the past couple of months. The Crab Crack was the biggest project. Peggy Rector had some health problems that prevented her from displaying her usual leadership but Tim Webber was able to step in with other board members to put together a successful event.
A budget for 2011 has been developed and the by-laws are being reviewed and updated. Our office assistant left in December and Darlene Feller was hired to keep things running until a new job description is developed with the Town of Rangely. This employment position should be advertised soon. Our new website went live Feb. 18. Advertising space is available on the site and it should be fully operational in the near future.

Lodging tax funds
The Rangely Area Chamber of Commerce advertising has been paid for with lodging tax funds. These funds come from a tax on hotel and motel room rent and RV park space rent. In 2010 the Rangely lodging tax board received $23,924 and disbursed $18,593 for RACC advertising.
