RANGELY I The Rangely Town Council met for a quick meeting Sept. 23 to discuss several ongoing and upcoming projects ranging from road repairs to the new Veterans Memorial and fire suppression systems.
Town Manager Peter Brixius informed council members that the town is currently trying to finish up any last road repairs as the season for laying asphalt is quickly coming to a close.
In the next couple of weeks there will be major repairs taking place near the area of 220 River Rd. to fix the collapsing street and sidewalk. The town anticipates that this will be one of the final asphalt projects for the season.
Also up for discussion was the upcoming dedication of Rangely’s Rio Blanco County Veterans Memorial, which will be unveiled at a presentation Nov. 11. The Western Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District sought bids for the stone pedestal base for the memorial.
The only bid received was for approximately $25,000. The town felt this was far too expensive and will attempt to do the job with town employees for about 10 percent of the bid or roughly $2,500.
The town is also seeking a guest speaker for the presentation. More details about the Veterans Memorial presentation will be available as the event approaches.
The council quickly approved a new fire suppression system at the White River Village. At the Sept. 9 meeting, council members expressed concern over contractors who had bid on the project. At the request of the council, the town collected more bids and has decided to go with Mountain West of Utah. Mountain West’s bid was substantially lower than the others.
The Rangely Town Council will meet again Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.
