RANGELY I The Rangely High School cross country runners are headed down the home stretch of the 2014 season with a run last Thursday.
The weather was cloudy and rainy at times, but the course was fast and the runners were feeling good, coach Beth Scoggins said. She was very pleased the way the entire team ran and was excited to see several recording personal bests at the meet.
The meet started with a middle race where there were only four runners, including two from Rangely.
Ben Nielsen took third while Chloe Filfred took fourth. Scoggins said she was pleased to see Nielsen and Filfred running and having a good time, and she said she thinks they have a great future in running if they stick with it.
The girls were next to toe the line.
Savannah Nielsen led the girls with a new personal best of 22:56 and 34th place while Rebecca Gillard took 75th place with a time of 31 minutes flat.
Patrick Scoggins led the boy Panthers at the Rifle meet taking third place with a new personal best of 16:50. Next in line was Zack Glasgow, with a time of 19:24, taking 47th place and recording a new personal best.
Mitchell Webber ran a time of 20:16, placing 69th place. Following not too far behind was James Scoggins, taking 73rd place running a time of 20:45, which was another personal best.
Brennan Noyes was next with a new personal best in a time of 21:24 for 83rd place and Austin Ficken was in 97th place with a time of 22:45, which was also his personal best.
Coach Scoggins said she looks forward to seeing what the team can do Friday in Delta during the regional meet, where the top 15 runners will advance to state as well as the top teams.
“We have several runners who have a good chance of making it to state but it will depend on how they run on Friday,” Scoggins said.
