RANGELY I The Rangely High School girls’ basketball team began its season last night against Nucla.
The Panthers have three seniors leading the way: Simone Heinle, Desiree Coombs and Dawn Stephens. The girls will start their season in Meeker at the annual WREA Cowboy Shootout against Nucla.
Coach Quinton Kent knows Nucla will be competitive as they always have been, and he is excited to see how his team will match up.
“I expect my team to play hard,” he said. “I know we are young and will make some mistakes, but I expect us to learn from those mistakes and improve throughout the weekend and throughout the season.”
The team has eight players on the 16-player team roster who have varsity experience, and they are ready for the challenge, Kent said.
The Panthers are adding an impressive freshmen class to the mix and certainly look to be competitors, he said.
