RANGELY I The Rangely High School girls’ basketball team got a win this weekend at home against league opponent the Hayden Tigers.
The lady Panthers beat the Tigers 38-30 behind the scoring efforts of Aimee Hogan and Simone Heinle with 10 points each.
Coach Quinton Kent said, “We were excited to finally get a win. I was pleased with the defensive effort as we held Hayden to 10 points fewer than their season average.”
Desiree Coombs added five for the team, Tessa Slagle had four in the game as did Lindzey Thacker, Kayte Allred finished with three and Dawn Sephens added two. Rangely shot well from the free throw line, making seven of 10.
Kent said, “In an eight-point win, seven freebies were huge for us.”
The team played Soroco on Saturday. The team played well again in the first quarter, ending up tied with nines.
“Aimee Hogan beat the buzzer from the top of the key to tie the game at nine at the end of one.”
Soroco shooters got hot from the field, built momentum and were too much to handle as the Panthers fell 68-22.
Hogan led all scorers with 11, followed by Thacker and Heinle with four and Slagle with two.
Thacker was leading rebounder on the weekend as she grabbed eight boards in the win against Hayden and six more Saturday. Allred pulled five big rebounds in the win and Hogan added 10 rebounds to her 21 points on the weekend.
The Panthers host Vail Christian on Saturday.
