RANGELY I Only three Rangely wrestlers traveled to Ignacio, in the southwest corner of Colorado, and, according to coach Jeff Heinle, all gained valuable experience for the upcoming regional tournament.
The Panthers will wrestle in the Meeker Invitational on Saturday.
“This tournament is always a good one for us to go to because we get to see teams that we will be meeting at the regional tournament,” coach Heinle said. “We came out of this tournament with a lot of head-to-head victories, which will help us in seeding.”
Nych DeLeon (145), Kiki Ruiz (152) and Ethan Allred (170) participated in a triangular against Bayfield and Ignacio last Friday, then entered the Butch Melton Invitational.
DeLeon won a match against Ignacio but did not place in the tournament, where he won two more matches but was one win short of placing.
Allred won both his dual matches by forfeits and finished second in the tournament, where he won four matches, all by pin.
Ruiz won three matches in the tournament and finished fifth in the tournament.
“They all wrestled well,” coach Heinle said.
