Rangely Hurricanes win seventh small team state championship

RANGELY I The Rangely Hurricanes Swim Team won its seventh Colorado State Championship for small teams at the Seasonal Club State Championship Swim Meet hosted in Craig’s 25-meter pool this past weekend.

To be able to swim in this meet, the athletes can only compete nine months out of the year and must attain a qualifying mark for each event.
The Rangely swim team was fortunate to take six swimmers to the state championship meet, competing in a total of 36 events against swimmers from across the state.
The swimmers at the meet represented a total of 24 teams and more than 300 swimmers.
Rangely swimmers were Chloe Noel (8), Peyton Armstrong (9), Colton Noel (12), Mary Scoggins (12), Timothy Scoggins (12) and Patrick Scoggins (16).
All the swimmers had outstanding races and lowered their personal bests in many races as each of them contributed to the championship.
Highlights include a 10th-place finish by Chloe Noel in the 25-meter breaststroke in a time of 30.96 and a 12th-place finish in the 25-meter backstroke in a time of 30.92.
Peyton Armstrong had a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke in a time of 2:02.62 and a fifth-place finish in the 50-meter breaststroke in a time of 56.56.
Mary Scoggins finished 11th in the 100-meter butterfly in a time of 1:49.08 and finished 12th in the 400-meter freestyle in a time of 6:2.60.
Colton Noel finished ninth in the 100-meter breaststroke in a time of 1:49.59.
Timothy Scoggins had a strong performance over the weekend placing in multiple events including eighth in the 400-meter freestyle in a time of 6:41.42, seventh place in the 100-meter breaststroke in a time of 1:46.22, ninth in the 100-meter intermediate medley in a time of 1:35.07, 10th in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:59.35, fourth in the 50-meter breaststroke in a time of 47.05, sixth in the 100-meter freestyle in a time of 1:18.92, fifth in the 200-meter intermediate medley in a time of 3:23.76, fifth in the 50-meter freestyle in a time of 34.29, and second place in the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 39.78.
Patrick Scoggins led the team in points as he finished first in the 200-meter backstroke in a time of 2:35.01, was second in the 200-meter freestyle in a time of 2:14.21, was first in the 200-meter intermediate medley with a time of 2:26.48, third in the 100-meter butterfly in a time of 1:12.37, second place in the 100-meter freestyle in a time of 58.49, second in the 200-meter breaststroke in a time of 2:50.76, first in the 100-meter backstroke in a time of 1:09.71, first place in the 100-meter breaststroke in a time of 1:16.82, and second in the 50-meter freestyle in a time of 27.53.
