RANGELY | The Rangely Junior High Panther football team traveled to Hayden on Friday, Sept. 8. The Panthers came out strong on defense being led by Timothy Scoggins, Justin Cudo and Zane Varner, and were able to stop the Tigers on their initial offense drive in the game. Unfortunately after that the Panthers did not have an answer to the Tigers’ perimeter speed as the Tigers were able to put up 30 points in the first half compared to shutting out the Panthers.
In the second half the Panthers were able to play better perimeter defense and held the Tigers to one score. The Panthers were also able to score in the fourth quarter when quarterback Zane Varner was able to scamper 53 yards for a touchdown. With help from the Panthers new tight end Ashton Bennett, Varner was able to get around the left end of the offensive line and outrun the Tigers defense.
The Panthers will have a bye this week as they prepare to take on Meeker and Hayden on Saturday, Sept. 23 in Meeker.
