Rangely Library reading carnival well attended

RANGELY I Rangely Regional Library held its annual Summer Reading Carnival on Aug. 7. Approximately 250 children and parents attended. The youngsters were treated to pony rides, cotton candy, snow cones, balloon tying, bingo, ring toss games, air pinball, milk jug toss, face painting, limbo, jewelry making, bean bag toss games and a giant tic tac toe. Numerous prizes were given out and delicious refreshments were served.
A big thanks goes out to the Rangely High School Student Council members and the 4-H members who helped set up and tear down the carnival in addition to running the booths. Additional thanks go to Connie Skelton for making and donating an endless amount of cotton candy, Justyne Dembowski and Courtney Bell for making and serving countless snow cones, Shelby Neiberger, Jake Smith, Colt and Chris Allred and Anne Marie Urie for providing the ponies for the pony rides and Teresa Cady for sharing her time and jewelry-making talents. The Town of Rangely graciously lets the library host the event in their courtyard. Giovanni’s Italian Grill generously donated several pizza party prizes and Main Street Coffee House supplied lots and lots of ice.
The theme for the summer reading program this year was “Dream Big, Read!” for the younger kids and “Own the Night” for the teens. There were a total of 308 readers signed up. They teamed up to read an astonishing 5,588 books.
