Rangely Middle School to host basketball tourney

RANGELY I The Rangely Middle School boys’ basketball finished off its season with well-fought games for all three of its teams. On Nov. 8 RMS hosted Meeker and the seventh grade B team started RMS off on the winning side of the match winning their game 14-11. Rangely outscored Meeker 10-3 in the second half to come back and win with AJ Lujan leading the team in scoring with eight points. The seventh grade A team followed up the seventh grade B team with a win of their own. The Panthers defeated the Cowboys 44-23 with Patrick Scoggins leading the team in scoring with 18 points. Brennan Noyes also scored in double digits with 16 points. The eighth grade RMS team fell to the Cowboys 33-26 in their game. Anthony Martin led the eighth grade team in scoring with 16 points.
On Saturday, Nov. 10, Steamboat Springs Middle School made their way through the snow to take on the Rangely Panthers. In the seventh grade B game the Sailors beat the Panthers 27-13. Malichi Ivie led the Panthers in scoring with five points. The seventh A game was one for the memories as the Panthers were able to avenge a previous loss to the Sailors earlier in the season with a 31-29 win. Devin Ramirez scored four points for the Panthers in the final minute of the fourth quarter to tie and gain the lead against the Sailors. Brennan Noyes also led the Panthers in scoring with 15 points. The eighth grade team fell to the Sailors 48-23 in their game. Anthony Martin again led the team in scoring with 12 points.
Rangely concluded its regular season by hosting the Craig Middle School Bulldogs. The seventh grade B team began the day with a 16-13 loss to the Craig B team. AJ Lujan and Austin Ficken both led the Panthers in scoring with four points each. The seventh A team took on the Craig seventh grade A team with conference title implications on the line and a number one seed in the conference tournament. The Panthers were able to defeat the Bulldogs 47-35 concluding the season sweep against Craig. The seventh grade A team also secured the conference title and the number one seed in their upcoming tournament. Brennan Noyes and Patrick Scoggins were the leading scorers for the Panthers with 14 and 17 points respectively. The eighth grade team suffered its second loss to Craig this season losing their game 34-6. Nych Deleon led the eighth grade team in scoring with four points.
Rangely Middle School will host the 2012 middle school boy’s basketball tournament on Dec. 1. The Panthers would like to invite any and all to come and support the Panthers on their journey to a conference tournament title.
