RANGELY I The Rangely Middle School Track season was short and sweet, with a lot of kids coming back from last year’s team. We had an outstanding group of sixth graders and we lucked out with the weather.
On April 9, we traveled to West Grand for the Muddy Creek Invitational, where we placed in all events.
In the girl’s sixth-grade division, the Rangely 4×100-meter relay team (A. Jackson, M. Scoggins, C. Goshe and A. Low) took first place with a time of 1:12.82. In the high jump, C. Goshe took frst at 3-8 and N. Patch placed third. M. Scoggins placed second in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:15 and fourth in the long jump of 10-8.
The sixth-grade boys also fared well in three divisions placing in the 4×100 (J. Dodds, B. Dodds. T. Scoggins, B. Moore) with a time of 1:07.8. J. Dodds placed fifth in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200-meter dash. T. Scoggins placed fifth in the 200 dash. B. Dodds placed third in the long jump and B. Moore placed fourth.
In the seventh-grade girls’ division, D. Rhea placed first in the 100 dash with a time of 14.09. She also placed third in the long jump and G. Sheridan placed first in the high jump.
In the seventh grade boys’ division, G. Polley placed fifth in the 200 dash with a time of 31.2.
In the eighth grade girls’ division, J. Kenney placed second in the shot put. Z. Peck placed fourth in the triple jump.
In the eighth grade boys’ division, E. Byers placed fourth in the 100 dash, fourth in the 200 dash and second in the long jump. D. Garner placed third in the discus and D. Dembowski placed second in the shot put.
On April 22, the team traveled to Craig for the Moro Nite Relays with a third place in 2:21 for the Green Team and fourth for the Black Team in 2:30. In the sprint medley relay, the boys’ team placed fifth in the sprint medley with a time of 2:31. The girl’s 4×100-meter hurdle’s team placed first in 1:25.78 and the girls’ 4×100-meter Green Team placed third in 1:01.7. The White Team placed fifth in 1:03. The boys’ 4×100-meter relay team placed fifth in 58.81. The shot put relay team placed first with a distance of 101-3. The girls’ high jump team placed second, the girls’ long jump team placed third and the boys’ long jump team placed sixth.
On April 30, we stayed home to host the Rangely Middle School Invitational, where the team fared well in all divisions.
In the sixth grade boys’ division 100-meter hurdles, B. Moore placed third with a time of 22.5. In the 100 dash, T. Scoggins placed seventh in 15.59, J. Dodds placed eight in 15.66, C. Noel placed seventh in the 1,600-meter run, seventh in the 800-meter run, 10th in the long jump and fifth in the 400-meter run. In the 200-meter dash, J. Dodds placed fifth and T. Scoggins placed eighth.
T. Scoggins also placed third in the high jump. Also placing in the high jump was B. Moore in fourth and Z. Varner in fifth. In the long jump, J. Dodds placed seventh.
In the sixth grade girls’ division, the sprint medley team (C. Goshe, A. Low, A. Jackson, M. Scoggins) placed first with a time of 2:22. In the 100 hurdles, C. Goshe placed first with a time of 20.55, A. Low placed seventh in 23.64, A. Jackson placed eighth in 28.76 and N. Patch placed 10th in 38.33.
In the 100 dash, C. Goshe placed third in 15.72; M. Scoggins was fourth in 15.84, and A. Jackson was ninth in 16.9.
N. Patch also placed first in the 1,600 run with a time of 6:55.
In the 400 run, M. Scoggins placed second in 1:17.03.
In the 200 dash, Goshe placed fifth in 36.0, and in the long jump, M Scoggins placed fifth with a 9-9.75.
In the seventh grade girls’ division, D. Rhea placed first in the 100 dash with a time of 13.94. She also ran on the winning 4×100 team, was second in the long jump with 11-11 and second in the triple jump with a 27-10. G. Sheridan placed sixth in the shot put, fourth in the discus and seventh in the triple jump.
In the seventh grade boys’ division, G. Polley placed third in the 100 dash with a 14.19 and C. Polley was third in the 200 dash with a 30.33.
In the eighth grade girls’ division, 100 hurdles, Z. Peck was fourth in 21.34; K. Willis was fifth in 21.59, and in the shot put, J. Kenny was second with a throw of 25-6.
In the high jump, K. Willis was first with a height of 4-6 and fifth in the long jump with a jump of 10-10 while J. Kenny was ninth with a 9-6.5 leap.
In the triple jump, K. Willis was first with a jump of 27-9, Z. Peck was third with a 25-11 jump, J. Kenny was seventh with a 22-7, S. Gillard was eighth with a 21-5.5 and C. Buxton was ninth with a leap of 21-2.75.
The sprint medley team took first with a time of 2:19.0
In the eighth grade boys’ division, the sprint medley team took fourth while in the 100 dash, E. Byers was third with a time of 13.12.
N. Miears was 10th in the 1,600 run and in the 4×100 relay, the team took sixth with a 57.69 time. In the 200 dash, E. Byers was second with a 26.58 and J. Rusher finished 10th in 29.87. D. Garner was 10th in the discus with a throw of 81-1 while E. Byers was second in the long jump with a leap of 14-0.
The last meet of the season found the team traveling to Baggs, Wyo., to meet up with some very tough competitors. The boys did not fare well and no places were recorded. For the girls’ sixth and seventh graders, M. Scoggins place fourth the 1,600 run with a good time of 6:18. D. Rhea won the long jump and the triple jump with an outstanding jump of 29-11.5. She also placed second in the 100 dash with a time of 14.20.
The 4×100 relay team (D. Rhea, C. Goshe, A. Low and M. Scoggins) took third place while K. Wills was the only eighth grader to place, having taken second in the high jump and third in the 100 dash.
