RANGELY I The 2015 Class 2A District Volleyball Tournament is set up, and the pools look good for the Rangely High School Volleyball Team.
The tournament begins Friday in Grand Valley with the Panthers playing West Grand and Vail Mountain in the first round of pool play. The teams will play a round robin with the best team advancing to Saturday.
Rangely finished league play in third place, giving them a great opportunity to advance into the final round on Saturday. The top two from Saturday’s games will qualify for the regional tournament the following weekend.
Rangely is going into the tournament coming off of two wins to finish their regular season. They beat Soroco on Friday night and Caprock Academy on Saturday.
The team once again had an incredible serving percentage as they served above 97 percent on Friday and 96 percent on Saturday.
The team had a well-balanced attack on Friday night led by Sarah Connor with nine kills, Katye Allred and Katelyn Brown each had eight and Lindzey Thacker had seven. Antoinette Dorris did an outstanding job of distributing the ball as she assisted nearly every kill and set up close to 100 attacking attempts. Rangely beat Soroco in three straight games, 25-21, 25-20 and 25-16. These games looked close compared to the games Saturday, as the Panthers took care of business against Caprock Academy beating them handily 25-7, 25-8 and 25-23.
Katelyn Brown led the team with eight kills, followed by Sarah Connor with five.
Carrie Goddard had 20 serves in the match followed by Lindzey Thacker with 14 and Antoinette Dorris added 13.
The team looks like they are playing well at the right time of the season, and, with everyone healthy, they certainly could make a big post season run.
