RANGELY I This weekend marks the end of one journey and the beginning of another for 33 seniors who will be graduated from Rangely Senior High School on Sunday afternoon.
The commencement ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. in the Rangely Junior/Senior High School upper gymnasium.
Highlights of the ceremony will include an acknowledgement of parents and guardians, a senior slide show, speeches by the class valedictorian and salutatorian and a keynote address by Western Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District (WRBM) Executive Director Tim Webber.
Several scholarship recipients will also be announced, with awards given by Encana Oil and Gas, Moon Lake Electric Association, W.C. Striegel, Julius and Lomell Poole, Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC), Stewart Welding and the Rangely Elks Club.
The Sarah Nicole Huitt, Douglas B. Chapman and Masons Benevolent Scholarship recipients will also be named.
After a summer of work and play, Rangely High School graduates will move on to next step in their life’s journey, be it more education, learning and/or practicing a trade, heading off to the military or joining the workforce.
Several RHS students have plans to attend Colorado Northwestern Community College or Colorado Mesa University while others have already made plans to head for various campuses statewide, regionally or nationally such as Fort Lewis College, Kansas Wesleyan University, Snow College or New Hampshire’s Franklin Pierce College.
Still others plan to stay close to home and work in the oil and natural gas fields while their fellow graduates hone their skills at trade schools such as WyoTech in Laramie, Wyo., or Lincoln Tech Institute in Denver.
