RANGELY I The Rangely High School track and field team had its first meet of the season in Rifle on Friday, sporting 16 boys and 11 girls, who made a good showing against 20 other teams.
“We have been working hard for the last three weeks, so it was good to see what the team could do against some competition” said coach Beth Scoggins.
Colt Allred led the way in points for the boys with a first in the discus with a throw of 131 feet, 9 inches and a fourth in shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 2.5 inches.
Mitchell Webber received a sixth place in the 110 high hurdles and a sixth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 44.85.
Junior Kaulan Brady is returning after taking a couple years off, and he was able to place sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 37 feet, 1.25 inches. He also had a leap of 17-feet, 2 inches in the long jump. Brady also ran the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.85 seconds.
Allred also placed in the triple jump at seventh, with a jump of 36 feet, 8.5 inches. Troy also did the long jump and ended with his best jump of 16 feet, 7 inches and ran the 800 meters, placing 15th with a time of 2:20.82.
Freshman Brennan Noyes placed sixth in the high jump of 5 feet, 8 inches and Patrick Scoggins was also able to place for the Panthers with a third-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 53.19.
For the girls, Katelyn Brown was able to score a point in the triple jump taking eighth place with a leap of 30 feet, 4 inches, and she ran the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.37 and the 200-meter dash in 29.71.
With more athletes out this year, the Panthers harriers were able to put together several relays. The boys ran a 4×800 with Troy Allred, Ryan Barlow, Daniel Connor and James Scoggins, placing 11th with a time of 10:32.01. The 4×100 was ran with Zach Glasgow, Daniel Connor, Nych DeLeon and Marshal Way placing 13th in a time of 49.76. There was a 4×200 relay team of Kaulan Brady, Nych DeLeon, Kiki Ruiz and Patrick Scoggins turning in a time of 1:40.26 for a seventh-place finish.
On the girls’ side there was the 4×100 made up by Lindzey Thacker, Sidney Shaffer, Antoinette Dorris and Katelyn Brown, placing 11th with a time of 57.76 and placing 11th. They also had an 800 medley relay with Sidney Shaffer, Meikka Peck, Dawn Stephens and Savannah Nielsen, placing 12th with a time of 2:19.21.
Other athletes who participated were:
Ethan Allred in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.83 and the shot put with a throw of 33 feet, 3.5 inches; Marshal Way in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet, 3/4”, the triple jump with the length of 35 feet and the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 2 inches.
Kiki Ruiz competed in the 100-meter dash, turning in a time of 12.64, the 200-meter dash in 25.75 and the shot put with a throw of 33 feet, 3.5 inches. Nych DeLeon ran the 10 meter with a time of 12.96, Chance Sheppard competed in the discus with a throw of 78 feet, 5 inches, Austin Ficken was also in the discus with a throw of 71 feet, 0.5 inch, and Zach Glasgow was in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.05 and the 400 meters with a time of 58.07.
James Scoggins had a personal best in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:59.69 and then he ran the 800 meters with a time of 2:37.83. Ryan Barlow, out for his first time in high school, ran the 1,600 meters in 6:43.69 and the 800 meters in 2:59.84. Daniel Connor ran the 200-meter dash in 27.96.
Dawn Stephens threw the shot put for a distance of 24’6” while senior Jessica Tolley made her debut in the discus with a throw of 48 feet, 4.5 inches and the shot put with a toss of 17 feet, 11 inches.
Savannah Nielsen turned in a personal best in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:44.85 and in the 800 with a time of 3:00.56. Antoinette Dorris jumped her best in the long jump with an 11 foot,9 inch leap, and she competed in the high jump, clearing four feet; and ran the 200-meter dash in 32.34.
The Rangely Panthers will be competing in Hotchkiss on Saturday.
