RANGELY | The Panther track and field team had two meets this weekend: The Meeker Invitational and the Cedaredge Invitational. At the Meeker Invitational, the athletes dealt with cold and windy temperatures but many of the athletes had new season best times and results. Angie Peck and Timothy Scoggins had the opportunity to pole vault. They have been going to Meeker once a week for the last couple of weeks to learn how to pole vault. Neither were able to clear the bar but will be able to try again at the next meet where pole vault is available.

Both teams placed sixth out of 12 teams, an “impressive” result for a small team, according to head coach Beth Scoggins.

The following athletes placed in their individual events: Dixie Rhea placed fifth in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the long jump. Mary Scoggins took third in the 1,600-meter run and long jump. Chloe Goshe took sixth in the hurdles and long jump. Elena Forbes placed eighth in the discus. Makenze Cochrane placed second in the shot put while Breanna Davies placed fourth. For the boys the Panthers had Marshall Webber placing first in both hurdle events, Timothy Scoggins placing fifth in high jump and Riley Boydstun placing second in both discus and shot put.

Webber, Colton Noel, Timothy Scoggins and Brent Cantrell put a 4×200 relay together and placed sixth. The girls put together a sprint medley relay made up of Goshe, Chloe Filfred, Rhea and Scoggins which placed fifth.

On Saturday, the weather was more cooperative. There was snow when the team arrived, but it warmed up and there was no wind. The athletes worked hard even though they were tired from the day before. For the freshmen, Cantrell got a new personal record in the shot put with a throw of 21 feet 7 inches. Noel had a new personal record in both the 1,600 and 200-meter dash. Peck had a new personal record in the 100 dash. Junior Audrey Patch had a new personal record in the long jump.

Three boys and five girls placed Saturday. Boydstun placed first in the discus with a throw of 126-7 and then second in the shot for a throw of 41-2.5. Webber won the 110 high hurdles and third in the 300 with both being new season best times.

Freshman Timothy Scoggins placed fourth in the high jump. Senior Makenze Cochrane placed second in the discus and sixth in the shot put. Breanna Davies took fifth in the shot put. Goshe placed seventh in the 100 hurdles and ninth in the long jump. Mary Scoggins placed sixth in the long jump and ninth in the 400-meter. Raelynn Norman ran her first meet of the year and finished fourth in the 1,600-meter.

The Panthers will be running the Frank Woodburn Invitational on Saturday at Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction.
