RBC I This year’s Beef Feeder Show was held recently at the Meeker Fairgrounds with 17 4-H members participating from Rio Blanco County. Ed Coryell, Trina Smith and Bill Ekstrom spent the morning weighing and tagging 49 steers from 32 4-H members (including four first time beef members) for the county fair. Not counting the miniature Hereford steer which weighed in at a healthy 552 pounds the steers weighed from 555 pounds up to 975 pounds and included a wide variety of beef breeds.
Lunch was provided by CSU Extension and 4-H members provided drinks and dessert. Awards provided by Meeker Beef clubs, CSU Extension and Tracy Hayes were given to champions and reserve champions. The following 15 4-H’ers exhibited livestock and participated in the prospect show: Marryn Shults, Savannah Pauker, Shelby Neiberger, Alanna Wiley, Stephen Walsh, Lori Ann Klinglesmith, Samantha Lapp, Shelby Neiberger, Anna Walsh, Jenna Walsh, Kolbi Franklin, Lila Kinglesmith, Antoinette Dorris, Dannon Bolton and Macy Collins.
The grand champion prospect beef was exhibited by Shelby Neiberger with her 785 pound heifer and Anna Wash was reserve champion with her 970 pound steer. The breeding heifer class was won by Lori Ann Klinglesmith, champion, and Macy Collins won reserve champion.
Antoinette Dorris won senior showmanship and Anna Walsh won reserve champion. Intermediate showmanship was won by Macy Collins with Samantha Lapp winning reserve champion. Junior beef showmanship was won by Savannah Pakuer and Marryn Shults won reserve champion.
