RBC — Calls for law enforcement assistance is up about 7 percent for the year at the county communications center.
The Rio Blanco County Communications Center has logged 980 total incidents, an increase of 6.98 percent year-to-date, according to the recently released May 2008 statistical report.
The Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office responded to 246 calls for service during May 2008, a decrease from 296 in May 2007. Traffic stops for the sheriff’s office decreased in May 2008 with 395 stops. The Meeker Police Department responded to 227 calls for service in May 2008, up from 191 in May 2007. Traffic stops also increased for the Meeker PD with 64 in May 2008, up from 19 in May 2007.
May’s most notable activity for both departments included 460 traffic stops, 70 VIN inspections, 35 animal calls, 35 traffic complaints, 33 motorist assists, 32 suspicious incidents, 20 incidents assisting the Colorado State Patrol, 18 accidents with property damage, 18 civil situations, 17 citizen assists, 17 thefts, 15 disturbances, 14 traffic arrests, 12 warrant arrests, nine fire calls, nine jail transports, eight juvenile problems, seven DUIs, seven narcotics cases, four domestic violence situations, three automobile thefts, three harassment cases, three restraining order violations, three trespass cases, two injury accidents, two criminal mischief cases, one hit and run accident, one burglary, one fraud case and one suicide.
The RBC Communications Center received a 911 call June 30 at 1:40 p.m. reporting a two car accident at 33000 Highway 13. Sheriff’s deputies and Meeker Volunteer Fire and Rescue personnel assisted the Colorado State Patrol with the head-on collision. Three people from Meeker were in a 1997 Chevy and four people from New Mexico were in a 2001 Chevy Astro when the accident occurred. All seven people were transported to Pioneers Medical Center. The Careflight helicopter transported one of the injured parties to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction.
