n To cook a ham so as to retain all its flavor encase the ham with a paste of flour and water, taking care to completely cover the ham so that the steam cannot escape. Bake in a hot oven, allowing a quarter of an hour for every pound. When cooked the paste can easily be taken off, taking all the rind with it. A ham cooked in this way is delicious.
n The number of “Knights of the road” who have visited Meeker the past two weeks has led many people to believe that we are either on the road to a boom or assuming metropolitan ways faster than our natural gait warrants.
n Fish stories are now the order of the day, and of course, all stories told of White River catches are true, but all emanating from other localities should be accepted subject to liberal discount as to truthfulness.
n Police Magistrate Sanderson will dispose of another big docket this morning. Mostly :citizens” of Petrolite.

n The Meeker Medical Clinic opened its doors, with doctors Stuart Smith and Gerald Puls practicing medicine there.
n “Man-sized steaks the way you like them. You don’t need a magnifying glass to find it when you order a stead here. Ours are generous servings, at very reasonable prices.” Meeker Cafe and Lounge.
n At Gambles, a Sealy button-free mattress, full or twin-size, for $38.88. The box spring was as additional $38.88.
n At the Tom Murray Market: Monarch Coffee, 2 lbs., for $1.75.

n “While the booms and busts that have accompanied past oil shale developments have conditioned most area residents so that they don’t start counting their chickens too soon, the general attitude of many once again appears to be confidence that C-b will be back.”
n Rifle Creek Theatre was showing comedy classic “Trading Places,” starring Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy.
n Meeker’s George Long won the first ever mini-triathlon, sponsored by the Meeker Herald and the Rec. District.

n The Campus Theatre was showing Walt Disney’s “$1,000,000 Duck” starring Dean Jones and Sandy Duncan and “The Legend of Hell House” starring Pamela Franklin and Roddy McDowell.

n Don Davis and Joe Collins won the Republican nominations for Rio Blanco County Commissioner seats.
n The following items were deemed inappropriate dress for school at Rangely High School: Shorts (except in P.E.), short blouses which expose midriff, spaghetti string tops, backless sun dresses, excessively short skirts.
n Brenda Brenton, daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Brenton of Rangely, will be among the candidates competing for the title of Miss Teen of Colorado.
