100 years ago
n St. James Sunday school boys and girls enjoyed a fine Christmas Eve program at the rectory Thursday evening; not the least of the good things being plenty to eat.
n On Thursday, Dec. 24 school closed for Christmas holidays. In all the grades the children were treated to candy and nuts by the teachers. The rooms were beautifully decorated with real holly, mistletoe, Christmas bells and blooming plants.
n The long talked of and much desired electric railway between Meeker and Rifle is assuming tangible shape. Articles incorporating such an enterprise were filed with County Clerk Scott this week. A well-built electric railway between Meeker and Rifle will pay from the start.
n The Violet B. McCoy Dramatic Company will be at Odd Fellows’ hall Jan. 4, with new plays and new people. For one week. Popular prices.

n Dear Santa, We’re the Dare kids. We love you. Please give Amanda a doll. She is only one. Sam wants a train, he’s only three. Sally wants a slippers, she’s four. Sheila is six and she wants a bike and a Barbie. My name is Chad. I want some pets, pant set, pump handle grips, patches, watch. I know we probably won’t get everything we want. We will be at our Aunt Mary’s in Arizona. Love, Chad.
n Dear Santa, please bring me the following: A head stall, some new clothes, a bit for Sulphur. I want a pair of shoes, and five pairs of earrings and necklaces. Thank you. Hope you can come, Rachel Brennan, fifth-grade, 10-years-old.
n Wendy and Gary Kiser are the proud parents of a daughter, Fallon Elise, who weighed 7 lbs 5 1/2 ounces at birth and was 20 1/2 inches long.

n John Comstock purchased Ford Sales and Service from Joy Motor Co.
n Marion Young was named Worshipful Master of Rangely Lodge No.17.
n Ronnie Daggett enlisted in the Air Force.
n Mrs. Marian Washburn retired after three years on the Rangely Driller staff.
n Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kilicki announced the birth of a son named Robert Jr.

n Four finalists were chosen by the teacher of the year selection committee. Mrs. Betty Pidcock, second-grade teacher at Rangely Elementary, was one of the chosen four.
n In an advertisement from Mountain Bell Telephone, customers were encouraged to make their long-distance calls before the Christmas Day rush, “to be sure of getting your calls through.”
n Muller reports that “we do have a doctor coming, and he wants the hospital to build him an 11-room house. He has nine children, and nothing in Rangely is suitable.”
n It used to be a lot harder to get married in Colorado, requiring a blood test for both parties at least 10 days but not more than 30 days prior to the date the license was issued.

n Rangely Middle School students of the month were Jaime Hume and Matt Crookston.
n Bill Sharpnack, Aaron Lembowski and Nick Lancaster were named top all-state high school football players by the Denver Post.
n Colorado driver licenses got a new, laminated look. The credit card sized licenses provided added security and prevention of forgery or alteration.
