n Mrs. J. Walbridge celebrated her 76th birthday Jan. 9, 1909. Her husband, Judge Walbridge, will celebrate his 81st birthday Jan. 23.
n Notice to coal buyers: On and after this date, I will sell coal for cash on delivery only. Positively no credit. F.W. Fairfield.

n J. and Ann Gentry earned the “first baby of the year” honor. Michelle was born Jan. 2, 1959.
n 120 Meeker Grade School pupils were absent when school reconvened Jan. 5 due to the current siege of red measles.
n Cast members of the junior class play included Doris Janes, Jerry Seely, Lois Ann Crawford, Bob White, Janet Rollman, Judy Brown, Tom George, Pat Johnson, Chris Halandras and Billy Jordan.

n New Year’s Resolutions created by the Herald staff: Anthony Mazzola, “Never park my truck on cemetery hill again.” Meeker Rec. District, “To do something, anything, we don’t catch hell for.” County commissioners, “Continue to make as much money as possible for the county as we can and tell everybody else we need more for future impacts.”
n The town council issued strict orders that snowmobiling on the streets will not be tolerated.
n Stephen and Jean Gianinetti are the parents of a new baby son, Stephen Anthony, born Dec. 30 at 6:43 a.m.

n Patrolman D.F. McBreen reported that there were no fatal accidents in Rio Blanco County during 1958.
n The age of the editorial cartoonist is revealed by the type of diaper he draws on the infant New Year.
