100 years ago
n The Hugus company commenced the erection of another commodious warehouse this week. Clarence Ford is the master mechanic in charge of the work.
n A wireless telephone now being tested is said to be a success. A wireless campaign, however, is more than one can hope for.
n Meeker’s theater-going people had the unusual opportunity of seeing a first-class play every night this week at Odd Fellows’ hall. The McCoy-Harrington company gave us comedy and tragedy (no two nights the same) and large and appreciative audiences greeted them.
n The White steamer is again in commission between Meeker and Rifle, with Law Cure at the throttle.

n The County Commission-ers closed a deal to buy 25 acres for the development of the “new, modern airport” for Meeker.
n Playing high school basketball for the Meeker Cowboys in the 1958-59 season: Bill Jordan, Lowell Klinglesmith, George Sutton, Eldon Leff, Larry Shults, Bill Dunham, Lonnie Shults, Fred Oglesby and Chris Halandras.
n This year’s license plates will carry an alphabetical county designation rather than the numerical designation to which we are accustomed. Rio Blanco County has been assigned YV and YW 0001 through 9999.

n First snow and sub-zero weather hits Meeker area after one of the driest and most beautiful falls we can remember.

n Retail sales plummeted 30.2 percent in the first quarter of 1983.
n October birthdays celebrated at the Wing included Leora Dunn, Kittie Morgan and Ellen Martin.
n First quarter citizenship awards were presented to Meeker Elementary students Ann Mohler, Trina Stout, Jimmy Thompson, Katrina Theos, Judy Greene, Emily McCoy, Andi Schultz, Kelly Scott, Seth Anderson, Jon Rehborg, Stormy Goick, Kent Nielsen, Kory Lloyd and Jeff Whiteman.
n Headline: “Taxes bleeding families of income.”

n Mr. And Mrs. C.L. Pusser announced the birth of a son named George Luster.
n Mr. And Mrs. Homer Howe moved to Artesia from Russellville, Ark.
n Mr. And Mrs. Frank Valora announced the birth of daughter named Amy Marie.
n Mr. And Mrs. Laurence Bonner moved to Mississippi where he was transferred by California Co.

n Seventy-six Rangely high school graduates were reported as enrolled for the fall semester in institutions of higher learning.
n Wildlife officers reported that poaching was on the rise, possibly related to the beef shortage.
n Michelle Collins celebrated her second birthday at the home of her grandparents, June and Warren Fifield.
n “Whatever else the neighbors may do, they give you something to talk about.”
n Rangely’s 1973 homecoming queen was Pam Powell. Susie Hillis and Peggy Hanson were her senior attendants. The girls were escorted by Pat Harris, Roger Hefley and Ronnie Rasmussen.

n Holiday travelers were pleased to see fuel prices drop to a statewide average of $1.02 per gallon for unleaded. Those were the days.
n Dave and Cheryl Robertson announced the engagement of their daughter Karen to Troy Lathan.
n President Ronald Reagan saluted 1988 Bible Week.
n Santa Claus visited Rangely Hardware.
n Aaron Dembowski, Bill Sharpnack, Lance Sizemore, Jeremy Lancaster, James Love, John Hume, Nick Lancaster, Cody Kuhlman, Doug Hainley, David Bradford and Rusty Conrad were selected as Panther football all-conference players.
n C.J. McPhail and Audrey Johnson were the Rangely Middle School students of the month for October, 1988.
