n Old-timers all agree that the late snow storm was the worst at this season of the year ever seen in these parts. The thermometer took quite a tumble after the late storm cleared up. Thursday morning it was five degrees below zero, and yesterday morning six below. Waugh!
n On Monday of this week a sale of town property was consummated which is of more than ordinary interest. Messrs. Major and Wildhack sold to Isaac Baer the whole of block 47 which lies just north of the place where Dr. Hutton resides. It is a fine piece of property, and next spring and summer will witness the erection of a fine residence thereon.

n Miss Pattie Collins was crowned homecoming queen by Lowell Klinglesmith, captain of the Meeker football team. Her attendants were Miss Nina Hauck and Miss Marka Dole.
n Work of remodeling and enlarging the First National Bank to start Monday.
n Gus Halandras, son of Mr. and Mrs. Regas Halandras of Meeker is attending Mesa college this year.

n Bud Cox landed a 35-1/2 inch, 13-1/4 pound mackinaw trout out of Aldrich Lake.
n Meeker’s First United Methodist Church celebrated the 90th anniversary of the church. Rev. Elmo Cook welcomed all those attending the celebration. At 13-1/2 years in 1983, Rev. Cook’s term was the longest of any of the church’s 36 pastors.
n Anne Moore Bubriski celebrated her first birthday Oct. 27, 1983.
n Lanny and Danette Coulter welcomed new daughter Brianne MaeLynn, born at 7:36 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 22 at Pioneers Hospital.

n Balmy temperatures throughout Colorado for the first four days of the big game hunting season probably accounts for the fact that hunters have checked 11 black bears through the check stations this year as compared to three bears last year.
n The impact of oil shale development was expected to bring 160,000 people to the tri-county (Garfield, Mesa and Rio Blanco) area by 1987. By the same time, million barrels of shale oil were projected to be produced annually in the area.
