RBC I The Meeker High School wrestling team will open the 2011 portion of the season tonight at home, with a dual against Coal Ridge, starting at 6 p.m., while the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will wait until Friday before taking the court.
Meeker’s wrestlers will be joined by the Panthers and more than 30 other teams in Vernal, Utah this Friday and Saturday, competing in the annual Tournament of Champions.
Rangely’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will host the Plateau Valley Cowboys in a Northwest League game Friday with games starting at 5 p.m.
“Our regular season goal is to host a game in the first round of the district tournament,” Rangely boys’ basketball coach Eric Hejl said. “We must finish in the top half of the league and would move on to the regional round with a win in that game.”
The Rangely boys will play on the road Saturday, Jan. 8, in DeBeque, while the girls will not play again until Jan. 14 when they will travel to Oak Creek for another league contest.
The Meeker boys and girls basketball teams will open the 2011 season with two league games on the road. The Cowboys will play the Hayden Tigers Friday, starting at 4 p.m., then travel to Vail to play Vail Christian Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.
Meeker and Rangely’s middle school girls’ teams will also open their seasons this Saturday. Meeker will play in Craig, starting at 9 a.m. and Rangely will travel to Steamboat Springs, with tipoff scheduled for 10 a.m.
