RBC | Rio Blanco County Department of Public Health and Environment (DPHE) has made some changes in more ways than one.
First, two new faces have been added to the department, our new director, Colleen Zufelt and public health nurse Ashley Garcia.
Zufelt graduated from Bethel-College of Nursing UCCS in Colorado Springs in 1999 and from there became a school nurse in Fort Carson for five years. She then became a public health nurse for Olmsted County, Minn., for four, next becoming a public health nurse in Rio Blanco County for a year before moving to Rangely. Colleen worked for Rangely District Hospital for a year and then took a step back from nursing and subbed for Parkview Elementary School for two years before becoming director of the DPHE in January.
Zufelt currently resides in Blue Mountain with her husband, Troy, and son Wyatt. Daughter Kimberly Mafnas is currently living in Colorado Springs.
Garcia a resident of Meeker, along with her husband, Danny Garcia, son Ashdon Seibert-Garcia and daughter, Jordyn Garcia.
Garcia was graduated from nursing school at Colorado Northwestern Community College in 2008 as a registered nurse. From there, Ashley began working at St. Mary’s Hospital on the neuro/trauma stroke unit for a year and a half.
She then worked for the Memorial Hospital in Craig for nearly three years. She was a medical/surgical nurse while also helping out in the intensive care unit and post-partum departments. In January, she accepted the position of public health nurse at the DPHE.
The DPHE has also been busy updating and organizing with the assistance of a United Way grant.
The Meeker office was able to purchase new equipment and new office supplies and paint the office. Rangely was also able to update supplies and reorganize the office as well.
