RBC I The Rio Blanco County Historical Society hosted its annual meeting on Sunday afternoon at the Old West Heritage Culture Center, which included a recap of the 2015 accomplishments as well as the election of officers for 2016.
The well-attended event included a nice luncheon, reports of all that was accomplished in 2015 and an election —reinstating officers Ellene Meece as president, Gayle Rogers as vice president, Sue Hicken as secretary and Edy George as treasurer, and electing three board members.
The new board members are Bobby Gutierrez and Kay Bivens. Incumbent board member Hallie Blunt was re-elected for the 2016-2019 term.
Trudy Burri, who has efficiently served as treasurer the past four years, resigned at the end of the year and board member Edy George was appointed by the board of directors to take over her position for the rest of her term.
The board and historical society thanks Trudy for her dedicated term as treasurer. “It is a volunteer task that requires commitment, and Trudy gave it her all,” RBCHS President Ellene Meece said.
Some of the new goals for the historical society in 2016 include signage at Milk Creek Battlefield Park, completion of the exterior historic preservation of the Coal Creek School, new lighting in the garrison, start of renovations at the Old West Heritage Culture Center and several heritage education programs.
The organization also announced plans for meeting on April 10, when it will host the Uinta and Ouray Historical Society from Ft. Duchesne, Utah, hearing stories of the White River Utes and having a discussion on how to collaborate in telling their shared story.
The group was delighted to have several young people at the gathering on Sunday and invites others of all ages to join in celebrating our heritage roots this coming year.
The dues remain the same: Individual is $20; Family is $30; Senior (65 years and up) is $10; Business Members are $50, Business Patrons are $100 (with advertising benefits).
