GARFIELD COUNTY — The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission approved 2,888 drilling permits in Garfield County in 2008, highest in the state and the most-ever approved in Garfield County. According to the Post-Independent, the actual number of drilling rigs is down about 33 percent, with 58 of 121 rigs in the county actually in operation as of early December 2008.
