RBC I The Joint Select Committee on Redistricting announced the schedule of public hearings that will take place across the state in the coming weeks. A public hearing for District 3 will be held in Grand Junction, March 19, at Mesa State College in the College Center, Ballroom South from 9 a.m. to noon.
“We are excited to begin our 10 public hearings to seek public input in a bipartisan and transparent process, as we work to draw a fair map for all of Colorado,” said committee co-chair Rep. David Balmer, R-Centennial.
In the redistricting process, the Colorado General Assembly is required to redraw the boundaries of Colorado’s congressional districts based on the 2010 census data. To facilitate this task, the General Assembly has appointed a bipartisan 10-member committee. According to a letter outlining the committee, the committee will evaluate proposed maps for redistricting, solicit public feedback on the redistricting process and make recommendations to the General Assembly on redistricting.
“We are looking forward to hearing input from the public and making this process as inviting as possible,” said committee member Rep. B.J. Nikkel, R-Loveland.
The Committee will hold at least one meeting in each of Colorado’s seven congressional districts.
Individuals who are unable to attend any of the public hearings may submit written testimony to the committee until March 25. Testimony may be submitted via e-mail to: CongRedist2011@ state.co.us or via mail to Redistricting Staff, Room 029, State Capitol, 200 E. Colfax, Denver, CO 80203.
