Sgt. Roy Kinney, investigator for the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, found this skull in the evidence room in January. “As near as we could tell, previous evidence custodians had tried to backtrack and find out how it got there. We believe it may have been plowed up in a field and a rancher brought it in the ’70s.” Archeologists from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management examined the skull and determined it was a caucasian adult male between the ages of 18 and 25. The cause of death was not known. “It’s just a matter of trying to figure out what to do with it,” Kinney said. “It would be nice to say this person was related to someone … and maybe they know the rest of the story.” Kinney can be contacted at 878-9620.
