RANGELY I The Panthers’ cross country team competed in two meets this past weekend with races in Vernal, Utah, as well as Eagle, Colo. On Wednesday, William Scoggins, Mitchell Webber and Chris Hogan made the one hour drive to Vernal to run a late afternoon race where they were the lone school from Colorado as well as the only team in green.
Competing with 166 runners, Scoggins led the way with a third place finish (16:21), Hogan finished in 49th (19:27), and Webber finished in 66th (19:59)
The harriers had to set their alarms early Saturday as they hit the road before 6 a.m. to make the drive to the Eagle Valley Invitational that hosted 14 teams and 122 runners in the boys’ competition.
Scoggins, who was in 11th place at the one mile mark, picked off the lead runners one by one and by mile two was the front runner and finished the race in first place with a time of 16:41, a new course record. Hogan and Webber both had strong races as well with Hogan running a personal best of 19:03, to finish in 27th and Webber knocking two seconds off his best time with a 19:57 finish, earning him 45th place.
The Panthers will be headed to Craig this coming Saturday to participate in the Moffat County Invitational.
