RANGELY | The varsity Panther football team lost its Homecoming game to the visiting Rams from South Routt County (Soroco) last Friday on Yeager Field and this Friday they will play the Tigers from Hayden, which is also in Routt County.
The Tigers scored first but the Panthers answered with a touchdown of their own before the game got out of hand.
“We started out strong after giving up a touchdown on the opening drive by responding with a two-yard touchdown by Drew Brannan,” Rangely head coach Paul Fortunato said. “After that, we fizzled and lost 46-6.”
Brannan led the Panthers from the quarterback position, completing four of 11 passes and rushing the ball 15 times for 69 yards and one touchdown.
Brannan, a junior, completed three passes to classmate Trenton Files and another to junior Adrian Lujan, who also carried the ball 15 times for 25 yards.
Junior Tristan Moore returned six kickoffs for 112 yards, including one for 42.
Lujan led the Panthers with nine tackles, while freshman Caden Dowlen finished with seven and Moore had six. Junior Lane Gillard finished with four tackles, Files had three, as did junior Riley Boydstun.
“We have a lot to work on and we will continue to build with this young group of athletes,” coach Fortunato said.
The Panthers will kickoff against the Tigers in Hayden at 7 p.m. Coach Fortunato said his team would appreciate the support.
