RANGELY I After a crushing 58-0 loss in Norwood on Friday, the Rangely High School football team will have a bye this week, then host the Plateau Valley Cowboys on Oct. 30, in the final game of the regular season.
The Norwood Mavericks, currently undefeated in league play, shut down the Panthers offensively, allowing them only 32 yards rushing, one completed pass for 31 yards and three first downs during the entire game.
“It has been a tough year,” Rangely head coach Paul Fortunato said. “I feel as if the talent is there to get it done, but we have just failed to execute all year. It has been a constant roller coaster with the end result of self destruction.”
Norwood is currently 3-0 in league play while the Panthers (1-2) have one league win, a victory over Hayden, and another loss to Soroco.
Plateau Valley is currently 2-1 in league play, having defeated Soroco and Hayden and losing to Norwood.
To continue playing, the Panthers would need more than a win against Plateau Valley They would also need some help from Hayden.
“With a win over Plateau Valley, I think our season is over regardless, unless a few things happen in the league that are not likely,” Coach Fortunato said. “I am proud of the character these guys have shown pushing through every week with the same intensity they have had since week one at practice.
“We will just continue to prep for Plateau Valley and see how the league plays out,” he said.
