RANGELY | The Panther cross country team traveled to Hotchkiss this weekend to tackle the hilly trails behind the Bulldogs high school. Competing with 10 other teams including Meeker, Paonia and Crested Butte, the harriers took on the 5K course that included a 400-yard uphill start on a loose dirt trail. Rangely was missing a few of their runners but in a meet that only took three runners to score, the lady Panthers came away with a fourth place finish.
Freshman Mary Scoggins was the first Panther to cross the finish line in the girls’ race and earned a sixth place spot with a time of 23:59 and came home with a medal. Not far behind, senior RaeLynn Norman finished in a time of 25:38 and earned a medal as well with a 10th place finish. Freshman Aliyah Jackson ran her first 5K race of the season and finished in a time of 26:35 on the challenging course in the 14th spot. Freshman Colton Noel, the lone male runner this week, navigated the course in a time of 25:20, finishing in 50th.
The girls’ team finished fourth overall, but they were the second place 2A team finishing behind Paonia. They traveled to Eagle Valley Saturday to face some bigger schools and a faster course.
